BTS of tiedyeforbabes
As we all know 2020 has been a year of continuous surprises. Tiedyeforbabes being one of them not only to my micro community on social media but to myself as well. As a child I always wanted to work within the field of the arts whether that meant being an artist, interior designer, animator, children's clothing designer or an illustrator for children's books it wasn't until society deemed these careers far-fetch and unstable that I threw my dreams on a back-burner and went for "safe.." but then came 2019-2020 and the endless eye opening events that made me realize more than ever before that life is too short and we should all be able to do things that make us happy and I mean truly happy not the kind of happy painted by society.. you know the American dream where you attend school for 15+ years and work for the rest of your life until comes retirement?! - this is not the life I wanted. This is the life I THOUGHT I had to have as it basically written for us by societies expectations.Â
Rewind two years ago I had an epiphany at a career fair organized by my school at the time and that is when it hit me! I was standing at a booth and was asked this one question which reoccured many times at many of the other booths which I then took as a sign! now you are probably wondering what that question was?! Let's name the man who was the first to ask me this question, Jim! Jim asked: "Well, what is your passion? What is something you are passionate about?" I couldn't get myself to think about the role I was actually there for which is teaching! Don't get me wrong teaching is a very rewarding job and I do love children however it was then that I confirmed that I can not see myself teaching for the next forty years or so. I kept thinking about any and every job within the creative world I also thought a lot about content creation which I hadn't yet dove into with my youtube channel. Long story short any plans I had for my future took a complete turn and I reconnected with my love for the arts. I instantly became happy again knowing I can live the life I always wanted! thanks a lot Jim!! After spending so many years without picking up my sketch pads, favorite graphite pencils and charcoal and all that good stuff I finally went back to drawing and felt like myself again. I then decided to startup my youtube channel and enroll in a few courses covering various fields of the arts to see what I wanted to project all my focus on and make a career of it.
Fast forward to today, I would have never expected to build a business from the ground up all on my own especially during 2020 and all of it's unpredictability! Nonetheless, I had an idea, started planning and took the plunge. Which has been my best decision yet! Who knew that my newfound love for tie dye over quarantine alongside my love for trendy clothes and content creation can be fused together and be the start of something amazing!Â
